Additive to oils and greases

oil additive MoS2 fine molybdenum disulfide evil-lubricants

Molybdenum disulfide is an inorganic compound with a hexagonal layered structure, composed of molybdenum and sulfur. Its chemical formula is MoS2.

It is a universal black powder used mainly as an anti-friction and anti-wear additive.

Molybdenum competes with other solid media, primarily graphite and hexagonal boron nitride. Due to its low friction properties, which are superior to those of graphite, as well as its high load-bearing capacity and the fact that it is relatively non-reactive, resistant to dilute acids and oxygen. MoS2 does not depend on absorbed water or other vapors for its lubricating properties.

It can be used at temperatures up to 450 ºC in oxidizing environments and up to 1100 ºC in non-oxidizing environments. Its stability makes it useful in high temperature and high vacuum applications where other conventional greases and oils fail.

Typically, molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) is available in ultrafine, technical fine, technical and macromolecular grain sizes.

The offered Molybdenum disulfide is a very fine pure, selected, ratified MoS2 powder of 0.85 μm.

Applications Usage

  • Lubricant additive
  • Additive to oils
  • Polymer additive
  • Addition to other sliding coatings
  • desulfurization catalyst in petrochemistry
  • for the production of hydrogen for use in fuel cells
  • for semiconductor production

MoS2 is also used as an anti-friction coating for applications where load capacity, operating pressure and low coefficient of friction are paramount. This coating provides effective lubrication over a wide range of loads, in many cases exceeding 250,000 psi. Molybdenum coatings lubricate sacrificially, transferring lubricant between two mating surfaces, which helps reduce wear and coefficient of friction.

Coatings with molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) create a so-called dry lubricating film.

    Application in automotive industry

Molybdenum disulfide has gained great popularity as a lubricant used in the lubrication of engines, gearboxes and other parts of the automotive industry.

It is added to engine oils (to reduce friction between the piston skirt and cylinder liner) and gear oils, where boundary lubrication is much more common. Small grain size means that no filters can catch it, it mixes with all oils and can be used in all types of engines.

With MoS2, all the parts inside the engine will be able to move with less stress and load. This means they will not require as much fuel. Another benefit is that by reducing friction, you also reduce heat. Oil-soluble molybdenum compounds, such as thiocarbamates, also provide protection against oxidation in the engine.

It works very well for high-performance cars with high overloads and temperatures.

Features and Benefits of Using Mos2 Additive:

    1. It significantly reduces friction, preventing so-called cold starting.
    2. Reduces operating temperature and engine wear, extending its service life.
    3. It will reduce combustion because the resistance during engine operation is lower.
    4. Quiets the operation of the engine or gearbox.
    5. Reduces oil loss by replenishing micro-pitting at the piston-cylinder connections.

    Application method

MoS2 as a powder to make a suspension, preferably dissolved in oil and then applied to the engine or gearbox in the following proportions:

    • for the engine on average 2-5g / 1 liter of oil, (10g is enough for 4-5 liters of engine oil)
    • for gearbox 10-20g / 1 liter (10g is enough for 2 liters of gear oil)

The suspension should be applied to a warm engine and after application, wait 5-7 minutes at idle speed to ensure uniform distribution of the additive.

Molybdenum disulfide should not be used for new engines due to the thin lubricant film, so as not to seal below the manufacturer's recommended values. For new cars with better to use liquid molybdenum disulfide.
