Assembly and running-in lubricants
The production and assembly of components is an integral part of many industries. It is important that parts are assembled quickly, safely and correctly; proper assembly or running-in lubrication can be the difference between a successful operation or broken or worn components.
When assembling two mating parts, there can be different categories of fits. Some parts may have play and fit fairly easily, while others may have tight fits where they must be compressed. Proper lubrication is critical to preventing vibration and damage caused by scoring/galling during these operations. Initial running-in of new or rebuilt equipment such as gears, splines, plain bearings, cams, and guides can be aided by proper lubrication to prevent initial damage to the surfaces.
Among the products for assembly and running-in, the following categories can be distinguished:
- Anti-friction coatings
- Anti-seize pastes
- Dispersions and aerosols
- Greases
