ROCOL OXYLUBE Spray

Inorganic dry film of molybdenum disulfide in aerosol for oxygen and vacuum environments

ROCOL® OXYLUBE Spray provides a very high content of molybdenum disulfide film. It is designed for the lubrication of sliding mechanisms such as plain bearings, pins, cams and guides, especially in oxygen or vacuum environments.

The spray is also suitable for applications where contamination by aggressive chemicals or solvents, oils and petroleum based greases would destroy conventional lubricants.

Application

  • suitable for use as a dry film lubricant for sliding mechanical bearings, plain bearings,
  • for lubricating seats and valves

Features and benefits

  • The temperature range of the applied foil is from -200°C to +450°C.
  • Dry lubrication – resistant to absorption of contamination.
  • Inorganic resin - suitable for oxygen and vacuum environments.
  • Prevents scuffing, picking and smearing.
  • Resistant to heavy loads (up to 7,000 kg/cm2).
  • Excellent wear resistance (high molybdenum disulfide content).

Standards and Specifications

  • Rolls Royce Specification – RR OMAT 4/54
  • Naval Cat No.: 0475-224-1963
  • NATO Stock No.: 9150-99-224-1963

    Setting the torque for fasteners

    Once the threaded compound is applied to a fastener that will be torqued, the torque setting will require adjustment to obtain the correct fastener tension. The correct torque settings can be calculated using the methods below.

    The following parameters were obtained from the tension-torsion relationship measured on M12 x 50 mm clamping screws with a 1.75 mm thread pitch, a solid nut and type A washers. The fasteners were degreased and a thin layer of threaded compound was applied according to the instructions on page 1. Data refer to fasteners at 90% yield strength:

    Connector material  Friction coefficient (μ) K-factor
    8.8 Smooth steel  0.058 0.09
    8.8 BZP steel  0.055 0.09
    8.8 Hot-dip galvanized steel  0.090 0.13
    304 Stainless Steel  0.077 0.11
    Aluminum 6061 0.068 0.10
    T = Applied torque (Nm) T = Applied torque (Nm)
    F = Stress generated in the fastener (N) F = Stress generated in the fastener (N)
    P = Thread pitch (m) D = Nominal diameter of the nut bolt (m)
    d = Diameter of the stroke (m) K = K-factor
    Df = Nut friction diameter (m)
    μ = Friction coefficient

    Many parameters affect the tension-torsion relationship of fasteners, including: geometry, surface finish, lubricant application method, joint material, torque application method, fastener manufacturing differences, etc. Therefore, the above parameters are intended to be indicative only, especially if a different material is used or if the geometry differs significantly from M12. Any calculated values are a predictive tool and the ultimate stress should be verified, especially in critical applications. These values are not specifications.

    Application method:

    Make sure that the surfaces to be machined are clean, dry and free from contamination such as oil, grease or dirt.

    Shake the spray thoroughly for 2-3 minutes after the agitator ball starts rattling.

    Hold vertically and apply a thin, even layer from a distance of approximately 10-15 cm (4-6 inches). • Use only in well-ventilated areas.

    After use, turn the can upside down and spray until the nozzle is clean.

    Film will be touch dry in 2-3 minutes, allow at least 10-15 minutes to fully cure @ 20°C.

    The cured coating can be improved by lightly polishing it with a lint-free cloth.

    The storage temperature should be kept below +50°C and the storage area should be free from direct sunlight.

    The shelf life is 4 years from the date of production.
