ROCOL MTLM Assembly & Running In Paste
Molybdenum disulfide assembly grease for precision and tight-fit parts
ROCOL® MTLM Assembly & Running In Paste is a very high content of molybdenum disulfide paste designed to provide a tough, wear resistant, greasy film that provides anti-seize protection, aids assembly and provides full protection during critical start-up and running periods.
Ideal for the assembly of plain bearings, pins, sliders and gears, etc. ROCOL MTLM Assembly & Running In Paste is also suitable for the lubrication of valves and other slow-moving parts under heavy loads.
Applications and use
- Assembly grease in areas where a tight or press fit occurs.
- Initial protection of plain bearings, sliding bearings, gears, etc., until the service grease becomes fully functional.
- Car assembly where the instructions require an assembly aid with a minimum concentration of 50% molybdenum disulfide.
Features and benefits
- Exceptional temperature range from -50°C to +450°C.
- Reduces the forces required to assemble closely fitting components.
- Prevents scuffing, picking and seizing during assembly and during initial running-in before service oil begins circulating.
- Protects against wear and fretting corrosion.
- Resistant to heavy loads (up to 7,000 kg/cm2).
- Excellent wear resistance (high molybdenum disulfide content).

Setting the torque for fasteners
Once a lubricant product is applied to a fastener that will be torqued, the torque setting will require adjustment to obtain the correct fastener tension.
The correct torque settings can be calculated using the following methods.
The following parameters were obtained from the tension-torsion relationship measured on M12 x 50 mm clamping screws with a 1.75 mm thread pitch, a solid nut and type A washers. The fasteners were degreased and a thin layer of threaded compound was applied according to the instructions on page 1.
Data for fasteners at 90% yield strength: Fastener material friction coefficient (μ) K factor 8.8 Smooth steel finish
Connector material | Friction coefficient (μ) | K-factor |
8.8 Smooth steel | 0.094 | 0.13 |
8.8 BZP steel | 0.08 | 0.12 |
8.8 Hot-dip galvanized steel | 0.122 | 0.16 |

Tips for storage and use
Ensure that surfaces to be coated with ROCOL MTLM Assembly & Running In Paste are clean, dry and free from oil, grease or dirt. Apply a thin, even coat by rubbing into the surface with a lint-free cloth. When using ROCOL MTLM Assembly & Running In Paste, components can be assembled immediately – no curing required.
The storage temperature of ROCOL MTLM Assembly & Running In Paste should be controlled between +1°C and +40°C.
